While life isn’t always perfect, I want to focus on the positive aspects of modern relationships. In particular, I believe that women today are better partners than ever before. It’s important to note that there are many people who spread misinformation about the past, romanticizing the sexual freedom of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. However, as someone who is now 39 years old, I can attest to the fact that the reality of those times was not as rosy as some people make it out to be.
To support my argument, I want to compare women today with the women I met in the late 90s. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why I believe modern women make better partners:
A. Relationship – before and now:
- Financial Independence: In the past, men were solely responsible for earning money in a relationship, and it was acceptable for women to stop working and rely on their partners. Today, however, women are focusing on their careers and becoming financially independent.
- Education and Empowerment: Women are now pursuing higher education and are no longer content with staying at home and being sponsored by a man. They are taking charge of their lives and are not relying on anyone else to pay their bills.
- Changing Attitudes Towards Employment: In the past, it was acceptable for a woman to be unemployed, but not for a man. While it is still difficult, attitudes towards employment are changing, and the internet generation is leading the way.
- Consensual Interactions: The era of “praying mantis” women is behind us, and the internet generation is more empathetic and has fewer expectations towards men. They are looking for consensual interactions and are not interested in generating unnecessary tension and stress. As a result, relationships with these women are more relaxing.
B. Sex – before and now:
Here’s a possible rewrite:
- The sexual revolution of the 60s and 70s was a myth. In reality, people were not as sexually free as we like to believe. Same-sex couples were not accepted, people got married at a young age, swingers were viewed as members of a cult, interracial sex was considered a sin, and one-night stands and friends with benefits were non-existent.
- Women did not openly discuss their sexuality, and many hid their true desires.
- 20 years ago, women were more passive and had romantic expectations. They played the role of princesses waiting for their charming prince, resulting in missed opportunities for sexual exploration.
- Today, women are more sexually mature in their early twenties than ever before, thanks to the internet providing access to comprehensive sex education. Women are less focused on romantic notions and are more proactive in pursuing their sexual desires.
Lauren Southern is a prominent figure of the Internet generation, who are characterized by their proactive approach to life. They remind me of the Russian women I have encountered, as they are not passive bystanders in their own lives. Unlike their predecessors, they do not have the “princess syndrome” and do not wait for a miracle to happen in their careers, love lives, or sexual endeavors. Instead, they take charge and make things happen for themselves.
What has changed between yesterday and today?
Twenty years ago, men often found themselves subservient to their wives and girlfriends. We lacked social skills and would often disregard our rationality when in a relationship with a woman. We would hand over control of our sentimental lives to our partners. However, today’s men are different. They think about their own interests in a relationship and analyze social interactions to determine their benefits. I am truly impressed by this new generation of men who are quick learners.
It’s worth noting that this shift in dynamics may pose a challenge for men seeking relationships with women aged 40 and older. Younger women not only tend to be more attractive, but they also have a more appealing mentality when it comes to relationships with men.
